The word Akshay is derived from Sanskrit which means imperishable or “never diminishing”. Akshaya Thrithiyai – brings home auspiciousness. While this day is considered auspicious for starting new ventures and making new purchases, it is also believed that by doing a good deed on Akshaya Thrithiyai one can earn punya or merit for life. Akshaya Tritiya is also called “Navanna Parvam”. Akshaya Tritiya falling in a conjunction with Rohini star day is considered more auspicious.
Akshaya Tritiya day is ruled by God Vishnu who is the preserver God in the Hindu Trinity. According to Hindu mythology Treta Yuga began on Akshaya Tritiya day. Usually Akshaya Tritiya and Parashurama Jayanti, birthday anniversary of 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, falls on the same day but depending on staring time of Tritiya Tithi Parashurama Jayanti might fall one day before Akshaya Tritiya day.
